Overview:

ISVMA is the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association. Their goal is to advance the well-being of veterinary medical professionals, the public and the environment. They achieve this goal by predicting, monitoring and confronting any issues that might affect the licenses of Illinois veterinarians. While taking care of sick animals and dealing with distraught owners, the last thing veterinarians should worry about is a technical problem with their licenses. If they already received a valid license in the state of Illinois, then ISVMA wants to help make sure the license stays valid. Not only will they help if any problems arise, but they will help to anticipate any problems that may arise, and fix them before they get out of hand. There are approximately 3,000 veterinarians, veterinary students and Certified Veterinary Technicians that are a part of ISVMA.

Why is the ISVMA important?

ISVMA provides many services and features that make life easier on the veterinarians. They provide informational literature, educational meetings and an annual convention. This forms a tight-knit community of veterinarians that can continue to grow and learn from their fellow colleagues. As a member, you also have access to legal assistance if that becomes necessary. One of the main services that sets ISVMA apart from the other organizations is their legislative and regulatory advocacy. ISVMA represents the veterinary profession every day in the Illinois General Assembly as well as agencies that regulate the profession in Illinois. This is beneficial because ISVMA is always up to date on current and future legislation that will affect these veterinarians. This organization continually monitors, reviews and amends the Illinois Veterinary Medical and Surgery Practice Act making sure nothing catches their members by surprise, and all their information is up to code and up to date.
